Hello all, I am new to this forum, enjoying the discussions and especially garage pics.
I would like to put a two post hoist in my home shop, but have never owned or used one, who makes the best? Keeping in mind this is not for a professional repair shop, just for this old fart who is tired of lying on the floor under his vehicles. I am thinking two post because I do not want to give up too much floor space, also my shop is long and narrow, with a 12' x 12' roll up door at each end, so I don't really want to have the hoist lined up with a door. I figure a two post hoist will allow me more room than a four post would to maneuvre inside the shop. Any advice???

check out the maxjax....pretty cool...you can't 'stand' under the car, but it's up pretty good for most jobs and most of the work I do I wouldn't want the car much higher since I'd be dropping the trans and rear axle usually.

Maxjax is for 8' high wall shops. I wish they lifted higher, but who wants to get under a car stooped over or on a seat creaper?

Get a 2 post that you can stand under. I'm in the same situation, looking for a two post with all the best features and a fair price. USA made would be good...

Go into any car dealer ship and you will see only one lift there; ROTARY. There is a reason why; Quality, Reliability and Safety. Think about the value of the cars you will put on the lift and then consider the value of avoiding injury, does it make sense to buy discount?
You sound like you already know the answer to that by asking who make the best.
Our motto is "Don’t buy a cheap lift; buy the best lift at a cheap price!"
Here at lift and lube.com we can help you get what you need, don’t be afraid to call and ask for a better price.

My dealerships have 150 Rotary and Challenger lifts. My home shop has a Bend Pac. Why? Any of the above mentioned lifts will be just as safe and last longer than you or I will in home use. Bend-pac does not bend me over if I were to need a part ether. Rotary does by only selling parts via protected area dealers. An imported Rotary branded hydraulic power pack is $1000 via Rotary while I can get the same in form and function and full spec for $350.
Mohawk lifts are way overbuilt for home use, quite bulky and have more complex hydraulics. The poster noted the desire to conserve space and the planned use will be in a residential environment. This points away from Mohawk IMO.

The weak link regarding lift safety is by far the end user. Operator error is the #1 reason for lift related injuries.

Thanks for the tips guys. My lift will be for hobby use, and maintenance on the vehicles and farm tractors (note to self, must remember to check weights on tractors before ordering lift!!) I have been in contact with the people who distribute Mohawk here in Canada, and they have sent me a quote on a 10,000 lb. two post lift. They sure look like a rugged unit, as does the Rotary brand. I see on this board that a lot of folks like the Bend Pak brand of lift, gotta check them out too. Cheers.
