Advice on a possible Mig welder purchase

First off, I only have 120v in my detached garage, and running 220 would be quite costly. I'm planning on using the welder for auto work, and a little bit of fabricating in the garage. I've been saving up for a while to get a new or slightly used miller 140 or Lincoln 140 from the LWS. In the meantime I have been keeping my eyes on Craigslist, and at pawn shops. I've missed out on a few deals and steals on craigslist, but today I came across a Miller 135 with gas gages (no tank) that has been USED quite a bit (doesn't appear to have been abused) at a pawn shop for $300. If everything works as it should I'd probably get it, after talking them down a little. UNLESS there is quite a difference in reliability or arc quality between the 135 and the newer 140 millers or lincolns. That is what I am not sure about, anyone have experience with both? Also what should I look out for on a USED welder?

I've also thought about saving up for a 211, but it would take quite a while (probably another year) and I wouldn't really be able to use the 220 anytime in the foreseeable future.

I've got a Miller 135 I've had for about 10 years and it's been great, it and the gas kit were about $600-$700 on special at the Street Rod Nationals in OKC. I've used it for LOTS of things, a buddy even did a partial frame swap with it to turn his Ramcharger into a 3/4 ton diesel 4x4.

I was watching the prices on the Hobart as well, but have decided to get one with the infinite power adjustment instead of taps. From what I've read and from talking with someone it does come in handy with thinner stuff.

The MM 135 is a good machine. The 120V machines weld just fine in their range. Be sure you have a good power outlet and don't use extension cords if you don't have to.
