Best US made ratchet for the money, Armstrong Maxx 60 or 88 tooth version.

Best imported ratchet for the money, Gearwrench 60 or 84 tooth versions (offered in a wide assortment of lengths, handle types, flex head, etc).

I said it, I meant it, let the knashing of teeth commence

Buy what feels good in your hand, what you can afford, and what will serve your needs well...

Would you mind posting a link to the best place to buy these Armstrong ratchets? I've heard a lot about them, and I guess it's time to see for myself.

The Armstrong maxx are also available thru Advance Auto. If you keep an eye on their discounts, you can get them cheap. I picked up two of mine thru them.

I have several ratchets, but have to admit the first one I reach for is the HF composite. Not sure that would be my choice if I was only to have one ratchet, but it is my favorite.

I hate to admit it, but I reach for my HF composite first myself..In fact I need to get a spare or two and one of those long ones that Steevo has been talking about...

Great tip, thank you! I have an Advance coupon coming so this will be a great way to use it. Thanks again.

Are the Armstrong's at AA online or in store? I've never seen them there or knew they sold them. I just knew about the in house brand or Gearwrench.

Honestly, i had awesome luck buying used Snap On ratchets on ebay for way less than the cost of new craftsman. Takes a little patience but I got 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" plain old steel handle ratchets in great shape all together for less than $125 shipped. YMMV but I couldn't be happier. Sockets are trickier to find at that kinda deal though.

I forgot to mention the Bahco series of ratchets.

These ratchets share the same internals as the Dual 80 Snap on's and can be had for about $90 for the whole set.

Online. I find that everything at Advance is overpriced and I think that's why they always have a discount running. 30 and even 40% off comes along fairly often. I think the deal right now is 15% off a $100 order plus a promo code good for $50 off a future $100 purchase. You must set up an account in order to get the future promo. I think it's worth it in the long run. It's pretty easy to find other things you need for the vehicles to bring it up to $100. Spend $100 and shipping is usually free. I do get stuck paying the sales tax. They also carry SK and a few other decent lines. It helps to know your prices though.
