Wanted to get some input on the partition wall door, etc., for the 24x40 shop in the north end my 40x80 pole barn.
The concrete floor is 6", insulated, and has PEX installed for radiant heat. I also have a 200 amp service. No well and the barn is a half mile to the house.
My plan when I started was to install a 20' rolling door in the center of the interior dividing wall and a smaller rolling door on the east side of the interior wall (same side as the shop man door). This way I reasoned I could park a planter inside and work on it over the winter. Four years later and after my wife and I both lost family members I am sorting through the aftermath of moved tools, etc., and getting back to the build. What u see in the pics is after five days sorting. Lots more to do, but all winter to do it. Be nice to get that wall up and trap some heat.
The draw back with the rolling doors is losing wall space for machines and difficulty in getting a good seal. It would be nice to keep the mice out of the tools. Still, the big door would come in handy for ease of working back and forth. Your thoughts?
The wood working machines will go into a 17x27 space to be finished in a different barn closer to the house. A third barn with attached 3 bay machinery shed could become a future carriage house with attached parking. I mention this as I am not looking to park inside the shop. The main purpose of this space is to service farm machinery.
Interior finish will be closed cell spray foam. I'll finish the walls with pine box car siding and galvanized roofing for wainscot and put up some gooseneck wall scones and overhead lights and fans. Finish the interior like the exterior of a barn with painted red wood siding, galvanized metal, gooseneck lights. Open to suggestions.
Also undecided if I want to add a freestanding stove. The direct heat is great, but again it ***** up floor space. I have a coal stove on hand I could install. The radiant heat will be set to keep the shop from freezing. If needed a torpedo heater could be used for warm up. Thoughts?
