Due to some car repairs I'm going to have to sell this top box. It is missing the handles and while it has the lock the 2 lock bars are missing (so it won't lock). Also has a small dent in on the left side. Mechanically works great.

I'm thinking about throwing on CL for $250. Any opinions? Am I asking too much, not enough? Thank you!

Yes, "that's too much Drew". Take at least $100, most likely more off. What is the letter and year?

I bought one from the late 80's a few months ago. It had the key and was in pretty decent shape overall except that the paint on the front drawer cover was a bit funky from some body shop chemicals. I paid $150 for mine and considered it a decent price.

In the condition yours is in I'd think $200 or less.

Remove the stickers and clean it up and ask $200, take $150.
No one wants your stickers on it and a reseller will have to spend an hour getting rid of them.
Clean it up and you might get $200 if you wait long enough.

I bought a very tidy box for £70 ( about $130) off Ebay UK , missing key but otherwise complete with nice drawer liners .
So unless there is a drought in your area for top boxes ,I'd say its a bit too expensive at $250 with missing parts etc.

This past fall, I picked up a KRA59, KRA429 and KRA545 for $375.00 Canadian at an auction house. The condition of the KRA59 was similar to yours. As others have said and I agree, remove the stickers, clean up the box, replace the handles and sell it for between $150-$200. Handles that fit are available from Aklands-Grainger for $8.00 each (see this post).

Thanks, robmac for the handles link. I priced handles from Snap On at $38 for the set. Problem is I didn't think I would get any more than $40 more for putting them on, so why bother?

Lookin' I'm curious about your opinion - to me it has sat on a lower cab since I got it, so other than the initial move what is the benefit?

Anyone know of a source for the locking bars? Anyone think it is worth it to do a complete restore? I'm in St. Louis.

Thanks for all the opinions guys!

Snap on still sells the locking bars and lock unit for that chest. IIRC the lock bar is ~$18, handles are ~$15 each. I have a chest that came like that, but it was super cheap and in good condition otherwise. That chest without side handles is a royal pain in the rear end to move as it sits on the bottom panel. Their larger boxes that don't have side handles (Ex KR537, 637, 533) all have runners on the bottom that hold the box about an inch off the surface you can at least get your hands under neath the box. The KRA59's don't. I'd honestly put that one in the ~$100-$125 range, even that may take some time. Those are one of, if not the most common box they made back then. Restoring that box would not be worth your time, effort and probably would reduce the value. Restoring a box is for someone that wants to keep it long term.

Here is a perfect example. I was watching this on ebay the other day. That is a really nice setup, but the seller is in for a rude awakening as to what it will really bring on the used market IMHO.

I actually have a KRA 59 just like this, it came without the top. I paid $60 for it. I think the handles are actually more useful than the top, as long as you don't have to lock it up. I don't think I'd really go over $100 for the one you're speaking of, b/c I'd feel compelled to spend extra money on replacement handles. :willy_nil

Thanks guys for your advice. Since my last post I hit the garage with heat gun in hand and removed the stickers. I foresee much goo-goning in my near future ;)

Maybe sans sticks I will throw it on there for $150. Thanks all!
