I am in the process of insulating and putting up dry wall in my single car garage. I am planning on putting up a ceiling and am unsure if my plan is the right route to take. Its 22' by 13' with the rafters spanning the 23'. I was planning on running 2x8x13 2 foot on center and putting rafter ties every 4'. I don't plan on using the space for anything other than insulation and looks no weight other than the drywall and insulation but I am worried that it will make the overall structure to weak, let me know what you think. In my sketch with the dimensions the 3 boards spanning the length and width are already there.
Thanks!

Hi there - looks like you and I may be in the same boat, only mine's a 2 car. I'm starting to lean toward adding some 2x4's to the existing trusses, since mine are 48" on center. i figure if I go across on the skipped roof studs (wrong term, i'm sure) then I can use normal kraft face insulation in the 23" rolls. Then, I'll probably do a vapor barrier to be safe (maybe) and use some kind of corrugated or other metal panel to finish it all off.

I'm not anywhere near an expert on this, but i'll clank a beer to yours and tell you that I think your idea is crazy enough to work :)
