Hi Everyone. I was hoping to get some opinions on a Craigslist listing that is local to me way out here in the Seattle area. The fellow is asking for $1800 for a Snap-on Classic 78 rollaway box which would include the stainless steel top. The box seems to be in good condition although I have not had a chance to visit it. What do you folks think about the price? Thanks for your time and Happy New Year to ya'll...

Me personally I would rather buy a KRL series without a stainless steel top for that price than a KRA with a S/S top. I am not a big fan of the KRA series, not that they are junk but they really don't do a whole lot for me.

But it is still not a bad price if in great condition.

Thank you for your quick reply 86k10 and I welcome your opinion. Are the KRLs built a little more rugged than the KRAs or do you prefer the KRL dimensions and drawer layouts over the KRAs?

The Classic only holds 120lbs per pair of slides and 2400 load capacity. Where the KRL722 does 261lbs per pair of slides and 3600 load capacity. Off hand I don't know about gauge or construction difference.

KRL is nicer but you probably wont find one for 1800 in mint condition with a SS top. Realistically KRLs start around 2500.

Thanks again...That's good information to have...Snap-on boxes in good condition don't show up on CL everyday out here but I would prefer more capacity...I can wait longer for the "right one" to come along.

The S/S top is a "nice to have" for me but I wasn't counting on it. Someday I would hope to have a top box to go along with the Classic if I went this route. Also, I realize I could make a fellow Garage Journaler a phenominal deal on the S/S top should I chose to part with it. Squish the Fish, Skin...wish me and the mrs. were at Gillette today throwing snowballs.

I've seen 722s go for 1800ish, even with a SS top. Admittedly that price with the top is rare, but it does happen. Being that you can find a ******* 722 for $1800 without much issue, $2500 would be a bit of a ripoff, the top lists for just under $700 anyway.

Personally, I really prefer the feel, and the 2nd full-width drawer, of the 722 over the Classic 78. Even if you had to pay a few hundred more to get the KRL, I'd still call it the better value.

I'd say $1800 is a decent price, but not a killer deal. In my area, it's tough to sell a toolbox for a fair price. Just too many deals out there right now. We're at opposite ends of the country though, so YMMV.

I sold a Classic 78, with the standard top, about a year ago. I advertised it on Craigslist at $1500, for several weeks and probably would have had to let it go for around $1100 to get it sold. Fortunately, I've got a great Snap-On dealer who agreed to put it on his truck on consignment. Within a couple of weeks he had sold it for $2500. After his comission, I got $2000.

Craigslist and ebay. I bought a krl 7022 with ss top, riser, and overhead cabinet for 2400. Box was hardly used and like new condition. Three weeks later I found an excellent krl 1022 on ebay 20 minutes from my house for 2000. I was looking for 4-5 months everyday for deals to come up on craigslist. When these boxes showed up I had the cash ready and I jumped. Trick is you have to keep looking and be patient. I saw a nice krl 1022 on cl a couple weeks ago for 1500. Didn't last long and I really didn't need a third box.

You wanna turn a profit on that 7022?

The deals are out there, obviously... they're just not ALWAYS there, and "there" might not be where you happen to be. Being quick, having the money, and having an easy way at your disposal to go get it are a big help. I checked fleabay today, and right now it's chock full of bad deals... if a good deal with a BIN comes up, it probably won't be there for long.

Thank you all for these great responses and your help. "firebox40dash5" is right...This area does not seem to have many deals right now and a deal can be worked out with some patience. I even called my local Snap-on guy and he had nothing either (Of course, I took THAT answer with a BIG grain of salt...that is, I don't trust him)...The Snap-on guy also said that no local area mechanics were looking to trade in their used stuff to upgrade to new. I have time to keep checking the listings for a deal.

Anything used on the Snap-On truck is going to be about double what the craigslist market price is.
