Have an old work bench from my grandfather on my dads side. It is way too high basically i want it at hammer height so around waste high so i have to drop it about 5-6 inches. It is made up of old steel angle iron with 1.5-2" width/height. I plan on adding a couple extra pieces to strengthen the frame on the sides as well as in the back and under the table top i will have to add.

I got a couple questions one of which is how thick of a steel top do i need to have to hold about 1,200lbs. It also needs to stand up to me beating on it very very heavily. I was thinking putting a stainless steel sheet on top of it, maybe wrapping around the whole top. So recommendations on where to look to find that stuff cheap and still be quality steel.

Next question is what is the best way to anchor that too the floor. It is a poured rough concrete floor. I am assuming I can use the square stock style anchors. How far down do i need to go with the bolt and how thick does the floor need to be.

Next question is what is the best epoxy coating when doing automotive work to put onto the table legs, etc.

MDK: can i make a couple suggestions so we can help you. can you post up a few pictures of your bench? also if you want to ask us where to buy steel or parts can you go in your GJ profile and put in your city/state or an area of the world you live in.

sounds like a nice sturdy bench.

/\ Ditto. SS heavy enough to beat on is going to be expensive. A top heavy enough to beat on say 1/2" is going to anchor your table in place with it's weight.
