Hello,

I have been lurking for awhile and thought it would be a good time to post up a question.

My husband and I are looking to upgrade to a larger air compressor, a 60 gal. with 5 hp or more, and preferably a 2-stage. Looking for used since new is not in the budget. We currently have a 13 gal. Campbell Hausfeld that is approximately 15 years old and still running strong, but too small and weak to run certain tools or to media blast.

I came across a craigslist ad for a 60 gal. 5HP, 2-stage pump, 175 psi Sanborn Industrial air compressor, Model 51-17, for $350. Owner said he has had it for 10 years and used it about once a month, but he did not say what he used it for.

Can anyone tell me about Sanborn? I know they are now owned by Coleman, but beyond that I don't know anything else about the brand or this model.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

For starters, in my neck of the woods the Sanborn 60 gallon goes on sale for $399 sometimes and $449 frequently. If $350 is in the budget then $450 for a NEW one should be. This is at Menards which I understand is only in certain portions of the US. Menards also runs a 11% rebate check sale often. I have a 5hp 30 gallon Sanborn that i got used for "free". I love it. Runs quiet, and builds pressure fast. I would certainly recommend one.
