Advice to make Snap on ratchets even better

It would be nice if Snap on representative on this forum could take some advice from us. Personally, I think Snap on needs to do the following three things to improve their ratchets:

1) Bring back improved hard plastic handles. Red, green, yellow :spit:

2) Decrease the size of their ratchet heads.

3) Learn from Gearwrench in designing their reverse lever.

If they can do all three, I will upgrade my ratchets all over again.

If you find positive attributes on Gearwrench, then just buy Gearwrench. Maybe one day Snap-On will catch up.:bounce:

On 3.. the lever on the snap on are ok.... no ploblem there..
I guess you have OCD........:bounce::bounce::bounce:
Hanging with Merk will cause that....:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

Snap-on should bring back their hard handles, other than that, they should ditch the made in China, thing that is creeping in.

Tool companies will do what they want, so buy accordingly. Cornwell still has hard handle ratchets, but only in 30 tooth, and soon 72 tooth designs. There is ALWAYS a compromise, buy what you think is best.

The tool companies won't care unless no one buys the stuff.

This is what I'm talking about. Don't you think the Gearwrench lever is better? The Gearwrench lever is thin and low profile (actually, the real thing looks better than in the picture). I'm sure it will last longer too.

Have you ever tried flipping that gearwrench lever with a hand covered in oil, your arm twisted 3 different ways, and your body half way in and half way out of the engine bay? I would much rather have the Snap On lever, since I have a real ridge I can switch it with... but to each their own!

i don't see one as any better than the other but i think the SO would be easier for me to use since i'm ham fisted:thumbup:

at least they aren't plastic. aluminum is a strong material look at all the other things that are made of aluminum, by that theory airplanes would break in half.

Yes, you are right. If airplanes are made of aluminum, they will break in half for sure. That's the reason they use alloy, although aluminum accounts for a large potion of the alloy.

Ok, if that is your preference, it is your preference. I haven't used either one, to be honest, I am not a big Snap On fan, and I have the C-Man thin profile ratchets with the same lever mech as the gearwrench... It works well, this is true, but I found it was hard, at times, to get the lever flipped when I was an oily mess... I have, personally, moved on to RHR myself as my go to, always been more comfortable with them actually, the C-Man were a gift from my brother when I was starting to build my own set, and he swears by them.

I am sure the lever is aloy as well, pure metal X anything is very, very, very rare!

I was referring to ToolGlutton's comment... your's was 100% inline, I know that you meant aluminum alloy and not pure aluminum when you said aluminum, nobody really says aluminum alloy since there is no point to stating the obvious.

What you said is correct. But alloys differ significantly. It's the fact that many people reported broken Snap on lever.

I love Snap on, but in a way much different from yours. Someone just feel offended even though I just said Snap on needs improving in certain aspects. Personally, I love Snap on, probably not less than you at all. However, unlike you, I'm not just trying to defend Snap on all the time. I appreciate any advice that will point to areas that can be improved, so that Snap on can be even better.

I don't recall ever saying that I love snap on... and I am actually not a big fan, to say the least, but they make a very high quality product, and many people love them. I am not one of those people.

I am not going to get into a flame fest with you over this. If the lever is prone to break, then they should do something about it. The Snap On design does look like it would be better for switching directions than what I have experienced with the low profile switch since it has an actual ridge.

But like I said, to each their own!
