I have right now a 16in ventilation sealed explosion proof paint fan in the corner of my attached garage for when I paint/use chemicals/etc. It just died on me and I picked up a free 24in fan. I plan on framing it in and it uses the same louvered shutters that my first fan had. My other fan would leak the winter cold air into the garage making it a pain to heat the shop! It seemed every breeze that went by I would hear the shutters flap open and shudder at the heating money lost. Even still the idea of some thin poorly sealed sheetmetal being my only barrier is not a good one.
What have you guys done to seal this off and possibly maybe insulate it somewhat somehow? Thoughts?Ideas? Are there better more energy efficient louvers out there worth purchasing? How did you go about sealing the ones you have?
Mine look like the image below
