Hello everyone,

My knowledge about tools is limit (compared to you guys), especially when it comes to power tools.
I am in this lucky situation that I got gifted AEG SB 2E-20 and black & decker d425 re power tool by my neighbor since he was moving.
When I look at both power tools I see them both being a hammer drill - most used used to drill in concrete and concrete + steel mixture (I assume).
I have a couple of questions since I am considering giving one of them to another friend since I do not see the point in keeping both (if they have the same purpose, especially when I have friends there do not have any and could use one from time to time).

My question to you guys is:
1. Are these two tools the same?
2. What are the difference between them?
3. Which one is the when it comes to Power?
4. Which one is best when it comes to durability.
5. Which one should I keep?

Thank you so much in advance and for enlightening me with your knowledge.

Tough one, as I think both of those tools are marketed in Europe, but are unavailable here in the US or Canada.

Black and Decker tools here have devolved to an entry level homeowner brand, but I am not sure that’s true in Europe. AEG, last time I was in Europe, looked to be roughly equivalent to Ridgid, available here in Home Depot as a mid grade line.

I suspect the B&D available in Europe is similar in quality to AEG, ie higher quality than what we have under that branding here.

I think the AEG is a percussion drill and the B+D is a rotary hammer drill.

The AEG drill is likely one of the German made ones.
Those were sold under the AEG brand, but also under the Milwaukee brand in the USA.
They may have also been sold under the Atlas Copco brand back when Atlas Copco owned both Milwaukee and AEG.
The front gear housing may look like plastic, but from what I’ve seen, the plastic is molded over an aluminum alloy internal casting.
Those drills were considered one of the better hammer drills on the market in the US back when they were being sold under the Milwaukee brand name.
Fein used to use the front section of those for some of the hammer drills they used to sell.
Currently, TTI/Milwaukee is using the AEG brand as a mid level brand between lower end Ryobi, and Higher end Milwaukee, although AEG used to produce multiple tool levels, including top of the line Industrial tools, a few of which might still be made or were until recently.

As far as the Black and Decker drill.
Black and Decker made everything from cheap homeowner grade tools, to industrial level tools that were likely just as durable as many other well respected brands.
Most of the Industrial level tools that are still around have been switched over to the Dewalt brand.
I have no clue where that model came in the quality level, and the tools might have been different in Europe.

So i assume that the B+D would be superior in terms og power.

Would’nt the B+D be able to the same as the AEG plus a little more?
The AEG tool will take wood, steel and stone drill bits (+ forstner bits etc.). So basically it can be used for drilling into everything except concrete and chiseling. The B+D drill has a "SDS Plus" chuck so it´s only good for drilling into concrete up to 20mm and chiseling (if so equipped). With more pics there might be more info :)

Thank you for your input! Did not know that the Atlas Copco (excisted) and owned both Milwaukee and AEG.

I did uploade som more pictures, maybe you have a better clue now 😅
The AEG feels like double as heavy as the B+D.
Thought if one could drill into steel and stone that it would be able to dill into concrete as well.

In America the old Black and Decker Industrial were great tools. These no longer exist. AEG made really great tools. After being sold to TTI they became lesser quality tools. An old AEG is a gem. Since I don't know what B&D makes for the European market I have little to add to the discussion of the B&D model. Monty is better suited to answer that question.
