Affordable Scratch Resistant Safety Glasses

Today I realized I have no less than 10 pairs of safety glasses, all of which are scratched. Some I can barely see out of. I quickly did a search and found different glasses ranging for $6-50. I don't want to spend $40 on something a $10 pair can do. Can anyone recommend a pair of clear lens, general purpose glasses that aren't real expensive? Up to $20-25 maybe. Anti fog would be nice also if possible. Thanks.

I haven't used any that are scratch resistant... but I get them and ear plugs from work, as often as I want. Their all China/Taiwan made and Z87+ rated... company probably get them for pennies do to bulk.

I'd just look for the cheapest safety rated glasses from a reputable source and buy and bunch... then toss as they get scratched up.

Safety glasses are disposables. I think More important than scratch resistance is comfort. If they aren't comfortable you won't wear them. Find the most comfortable pair you can and buy in bulk. Replace when they gets scratched/covered with paint overspray. The little lens savers wipes are good for daily cleaning to get the **** off.

Uvex by Honeywell, very extensive catalog and probably the most scratch resistant of what I have used in your price range. Most of their line is made in USA if that factors into anything. My regulars right now are the Genesis S3200D and S3970DF (goggles).

I had this model for years, http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/253-sm-40074.html , till they grew legs... bought another pair that got squashed by wife and now I can't find any store that will have them in stock and not sell in bulk.



wear them as sunglasses also, they are scratch and fog resistant, the frame is metal and very very well built , but the most important thing they are optically correct lenses, no - or +

you'll only find **** in the same price range, I had/have so many over the years, this is really something nice.

So im reading that your eyes are worth no more than 25 bucks?

Eye protection is something not to cheap out on.

Crews Klondike. About $3-4 a piece. Rubber nose piece. Amazon has decent prices. I use them as sunglasses. Typically have 10-15 pairs around the house.

I bought a par of Milwaukee branded ones that do a nice job and were around $12. They were some kind of coated glass lenses, not plastic.

I too got sick of the really cheap, disposable ones.

Can anyone else recommend any other brands of glasses? There are a lot of reviews on Amazon that say the Bolle Siliym glasses scratch rather easily and some have problems with the lenses. Still considering them, just curious as to what else is out there.

hahhah, next time I'll have a life changing relocation I'll keep that in mind


some ppl don't understand what scratch resistant means... same with stain-LESS-steel, it's not rust proof it just rust LESS, same with the lenses, so you will get reviews like that all the time for any product no matter how good it is

another thing , I have/had almost perfect vision in both eyes, a neutral lens is perfect for me but not that good for other people.

I can vouch for Bolle, they are a good inexpensive brand. Other brands that I have used in the past that held up pretty well are Spyder and Rudy Project. I just don't know if you'd be able to find the latter locally in the US.

Hammering into 50 year old doug fir framing, a ten penny nail bounced back at my face. ricocheted off of my polycarbonate lens hard enough to leave a divot. That divot was directly in front of my left eye.
I took the rest of the afternoon off and thought about safety glasses and all the time I used to NOT wear them.

I work in a fiberglass plant. Safety glasses get scratched easily with a little dust on them while in the plant. The best safety glasses ive used that seem to resist scratches from the fine dust are either (dewalt contractor pro clear safety glasses) or (crews law 2 clear safety glasses). Both pairs also have rubber nose pieces.

I can't stand scratchy plastic either. No matter how hard I try they get cpcloudy and scratched. I got these from Ebay:



They're z87 rated vintage American Optical safety glasses with real glass lenses and flip up UV protection 1/2 lenses. I love 'em!

A bazillion times this. Don't settle for ANSI Z87 rating, look for the higher military rating. If you're going to rely on eye protection, it should be more than simply "sufficient," as the time when you'll really need it is when **** goes really wrong.

Went with the Dewalt pair from HD. They were the most reasonably priced with all great reviews. So far they've worked out well. With that said, I've kinda taken extra care not to scratch or drop them.

I keep a bunch of the cheap Uline clears around... more accurately, I forget to bring them back to work with me and need to get a new pair... so I swap them out whenever scratched. For the vast majority of tasks, Z87+ is more than capable of offering the required protection. When doing tasks where it might not be good enough, safety glasses alone probably aren't the proper PPE anyway.

I tend to like UVEX and the Snap-On Glass40 series. The ones I got from tradeschool were the best 4 dollars and took shrapnel from other idiots like no other. The Snap-Ons are a recent addition broke my last pair and needed them and he was there.

Safety glasses have saved my eyes at least 20x in the past 3-4yrs. If you want cheap UVEX genisys.

I buy these 3m glasses from amazon and use them when I mow on my zero, the foam gasket keeps a lot of the dust out of my eyes, they seem to hold up well too. @ $8 I have several in clear, mirror, and smoke.
PS: I work in manufacturing and we have safety glasses at work, I've been there over 20 yrs so you can imagine how many pairs of safety glasses have come home with me over the years, my point is, I like these 3m ones better than the uvex and others I have from work. YMMV

Ya know, I'm a part time landscaper and never even considered the foam gasket style glasses. My jaw literally dropped when I read this. I sweat a lot. Like real bad. What happens when the foam gets wet or waterlogged? Do they become uncomfortable or fog up easier? Lets face it, they can, do and will fog up...
