I have an IR ss5l5 compressor that I want to add an aftercooler to. I have the Derale 13300 Tube and Fin Cooler Core which has -6 JIC flare fittings on both ends. What are my options to get from the JIC fitting down to a 3/8" black pipe (to go into the water separator) that are available at the hardware store? Could I chop the connector off and put a 45 degree flare on the end of the pipe, then get a brass compression to MIP adapter?

Any store that carries hydraulic parts will have JIC to NPT adaptors. Some NAPAs have hydraulic stuff. I either go on line (surpluscenter is a good source) or go to an outlet of a local chain of hydraulics stores.

I think you want a 6-8 G6X-S in Parker 4300 series.

That will get you from the JIC-6 male on the to a 1/2" NPT-F hex fitting. So you'd screw in a male ****** to the plated steel adapter fitting. The female JIC has a tube nut.

This is a visual, abit pricey each.

Another option would be the 6-6 F6X which would get you to a 3/8" male NPT. They don't have the 6-8 size crossing in F6X.

A price reducing possibility is to introduce something like an 6 FTX-S which is male NPT to male JIC just like your cooler and run a #6 hydraulic hose built with #6 JIC female swivel (tube nut) fittings on each end. While this works from an adapter size, I feel like the #6 hose would be a bit small for larger HP compressors.

I get my info from Parker 4300 series tube fittings catalog. Download a .pdf its very helpful and has visual aids and a full series of charts to make it crystal clear what you need and what you are getting.

I chopped off the ends, deburred, then used some compression fittings. here it is roughed in, I'm going to screw it straight to the cage with some rubber washers between to prevent vibrations.
