Afternoon gents.

Name is Asim and have been following this forum for quite a while now. I hope that I can seek some general advice and knowledge from all of you in the hopes of having better plans and preparations in the future if an opportunity may arise.

Background: Born in Abu Dhabi, UAE and now a citizen of US. A general automotive fanatic. Have been working on cars for quite a long time now even prior receiving an automotive degree from WakeTech College. Have worked at two independent shops and have worked at one of Hendrick auto stores, and now working at Fred Anderson Toyota. Have a good and basic number of tools enough to get the job done on my cars personally speaking. I'm currently a forum member on Bimmerforums.com and it seems that there are few people or names here that I have instantly recognized, so Hello to them as well!

Got a couple of questions for you guys. Is there any place, and especially around in Raleigh, NC, where I could actually rent a small garage for personal use? Or would you suggest to look at somewhere else or something else rather than getting/renting a garage? What are your thoughts of places like 'Public Storage'? I know and remember that there was a guy who had his own little workshop at one of Public Storage location where he used to work on his car alone. He had quite a number of tools and equipments in one of those storage units. Do you think this would be a good idea to start with? Basically, I'm just looking out for a place to do any kind of work or personal auto projects. I live in an apartment and I'm limited to what I can do outside. Hence, the reasoning of joining this forum and seek the best knowledge I could get.

Thanks.
Asim

Good luck on your search for space to work at.

Nice little work history you have there. Hendricks motorsports, did you get to work on any of the NASCAR ones? I've always thought that would be fun.

No, never worked at Hendrick Motorsports but at one of their Hendrick auto dealerships namely KIA and have also worked a little bit for Buick and GMC. Although I know one guy back from WakeTech who wanted to get into Hendrick Motorsports so perhaps he may be in one right now.

AUAQ: Welcome to our forum and happy to have another knowledgeable new member join our group.

if you can't find a small garage for lease locally from a private individual some of the secure storage areas might be an option. most don't provide electrical and don't allow guys and gals to work on cars so check with the managers first before signing your lease.

post a few pictures of your past garage if you have any so we might be able to help you design your new one if you need help.

Merry Christmas

Thanks.

I'll look into those secure storage areas and see what is possible or allowable or not.

I'm afraid I've never owned or ever had a garage before. I used to do it all outside the house/apartment. However, I have a very good friend of mine who does have a small or one car garage at his house and both of us met at WakeTech's Automotive program. Both of us have worked on his car projects and every now and then I just come along or help him out. Just looking to do something similar on my side just like his ongoing project.

Anyways, after these holidays and when I get a chance, I'll find out about the Public Storage place and see more places, and hopefully get onto something.
