I am sure a few people have some experience with them. I just recently had the pleasure of learning all about this type of spray technology and the pros-cons.

I made a little video of my experience sort of explaining it and doing some sprayouts. Maybe it would be helpful to those unfamiliar with the technology.

Just thought I would share some knowledge of something I find very cool.

The original was the Kremlin Airmix which is sort of the industry standard in the woodfinishing industry. C. A. Technologies and Graco also make them. The advantage is very high transfer efficiency with low overspray and they can pump out a ton of lacquer or conversion varnish very quickly. Great tools, but as is the case with normal airless rigs, cleanup is a pain in the *** particularly since these are commonly used with solvent based paints. It can easily take a gallon of lacquer thinner to completely clean one of these. The people that founded C. A. Technologies came from Binks.

Yep, and now Wagner owns them. Wagner makes the Cadillac of pumps and controllers for high production and automatic spraying.

Cleanup isn't much, just spray your solvent through with the cap off.

Wagner has the cleaning down to simply putting it into a gun box and hitting a flush button where a flushing pump pulls the trigger and flushes the system. They also have pot life timers so it will do it automatically. Although it costs a pretty penny though.

I have gotten to spray with their twin control, basically makes spraying A/B stuff brainless after you set your ratio.

I have used the air assisted sprayers a lot when I painted cabinets. They are by a large margin the best tool for the job. At home, I just use a nice small binks pressure pot, or a snap on "Sharpe" spray gun on the quart cup. Air assisted would be nice to have, but huge overkill for my needs.
One shop I ran had 4 air assisted units set up. That was a very nice paint shop. Had one for primer, one for paint, one for sealer, and one for top coat. With these setups, production was through the roof compared to other shops I worked

Yeah, this demonstration was just to show what can be done and how it works for those not familiar. It is not for a DIY'er unless you got a lot of projects that need to be sprayed in bulk.

For the small projects I do when I need to spray something I use both a 3M PPS setup (their gun and everything) or I have an adapter for the 3M PPS lids/cup for my CAT guns for ease of cleanup.
