Air blowing from pressure switch on compressor normal?

I had the pressure on my upright compressor off to re-seal the threads on the pipe into the tank. After putting the switch back on, I noticed there's a small amount of air blowing out of the fitting under it. It's the small hole in the ell fitting (next to the alloy body) for the 1/4" plastic line for the unloader valve as can be seen in the photo. Have never noticed this before but I have been working in close proximity to the compressor in the last few days and maybe have just not noticed it before.

Wondering if this is normal or if something needs replacing? It stops as soon as the compressor stops running.

Your check valve is fine.
It's your unloader valve that's leaking slightly, but that's not unusual.

Is it possibly the quick connect elbow underneath the pressure switch? When I look into the small hole in the elbow, I can see metal which I think may be the ****** projecting out from the switch housing. Maybe there's a small grommet in there that is damaged or dried out? Maybe I should just try a new elbow before going to a lot of effort to pull the check valve out?

Correct, it's not your check valve, it's the unloader valve that's leaking.

You may be able to clean it and get it working again, otherwise you can replace it.
But if it's just a small bit of air leaking it has negligible effect on the performance and you can just ignore it.

If it leaks while running the bleeder valve on the pressure switch is at fault. If it leaks while shut off the discharge check valve is the culprit.

If the bleeder valve leaks it will be difficult to procure a replacement valve. Just buy a whole new pressure switch.

If the unloader valve unloads, the continues to leak it the tank ck valve. We replace ours every year at work. Matter of fact I just had them do 2 weeks ago.


Look where the unloader line goes. It's on the compressor side of the tank check valve.

You may get a pfft from the unloader, bur it should stop in a few seconds.

Ya mine does same thing for 2 seconds.after motor stops...that's the norm...I beleave
