Air chucks/tire inflators that don't ****

I'm tired of fighting with cheap/POS tire inflators, any suggestions on an air chuck w/ dial gauge that doesn't ****? Also, any high flow models that work with a true 1/2" lines for larger/higher pressure tires? I have a few tires that hold 100-110psi, need something that doesn't take forever to get up to pressure.

Can second the Astro 3018. I haven't tried other high quality inflators, but I don't see how they could be any better.

Also using a 1/4 fitting with a 3/8 air hose shouldn't be a restriction. Your standard valve stem even without a valve core has a much lower flow rate than either.

I'm trying to avoid digital dials, currently looking at the Milton 553.

Digital blue point one is great and have had no issues. Lifetime warranty no calibration issues have seen many techs with them used abused and keep on going. I didn't want digital but I'm glad I got it.

I have a Matco inflator with a dial gauge.

It works fine, and I have never had any issues with it.

I have never needed to inflate anything bigger than the tires on my 3/4 ton Chevy, but its the same Schrader valve on big tires and little tires. I would think your limit would be the compressor pressure.

Not to get off the subject but did AMFLO sell out to Plew/Edlemann?
If so is the quality the same? I like this one you have shown here.

I'm hoping they didn't mess with it. I bought mine in 1999 when AMFLO was still AMFLO. The one I have is super high quality.

I have a Branick at home that has a very nice rotary dial display - I love it. It has a big heavy cast Aluminum body, and the numbers are easily read within 1/2 lb increments. I wanted to buy another but they are no longer on Amazon.

So I bought a Milton for my shop and it's such a disappointment - the dial is so small and the numbers so close together that the pressure is a guess. If you can find a Branick that's what you are looking for.

Wow - I just looked on Amazon and they have a Branick like mine for $119 and what looks like a slightly better one for $144. That's a lot - I think I paid about $60 for the one I have, however they are good enough I might spring for one even at that price.

It's a bit spendy, but I have an older model of the Astro 3018 (the one that uses the coin cell battery and rubber hose) and that works great... and I have no desire to use anything else.

That said, there's one modification that I recommend to the Astro 3018: replace the lock on air chuck. The one that comes with the unit never maintained a tight seal with the valve unless I kept hand pressure on the chuck itself. I replaced it with a Haltec H-5265 (~$11.50 on amazon) lock on air chuck, and now I don't have to hold and put pressure on the chuck/valve stem anymore. Admittedly, it's a minor quibble, but it now functions as it should now.

I agree. I have a good digital gauge but the made in China tire chucks **** hairy balls.
I am looking to try three tire chucks, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Coats 85008903
Haltec CH-300
Myers 54358

I looked a lot, never found a source for the Coats other than as part of the $1400 inflation station.

I can't find it. Can you post the model number or link?

Not interested in digital models, and I need one that goes to 110 psi.

Any big difference in quality between Amflo and Milton?

My recent experience with Milton indicates they're not what they once were. I ordered a coupler set on Amazon and it leaked when connected. Milton then sent me a replacement directly from them thinking maybe I received a fake (It wasn't). The new set leaked as well. One of these days I'll upgrade to something different.

Look for a 120 psi industrial gauge. Accuracy and price go hand-in-hand. You can get 1% accuracy for around $40-$50. A 2-3% accuracy gauge is sufficient for general use and cheaper. Stay with a brand names like Ashcroft, Wika, Noshok, Span.

Don't bother with liquid filled; they can leak and have terrible temperature deviation.
Don't drop it.
The pistol-grip style inflators are too leaky.

Put it on your own hose/valve assembly. Some people like inflators, some people like whips. I buy the Harbor Freight Dual Chuck Tire Inflator With Dial Gauge and throw away their crappy gauge and use whatever tire chuck I have laying around. I am still searching for the perfect chuck.

Ideally, I need one that will work as easily with 19.5 or 22" truck tires up to 110psi, all the way down to small car and ATV tires....and I only want to buy it once. I've had a few from HF, but they are all hit or miss.

About 10 years ago I had had it with junk gauges and bit the bullet with this.

Part# TGIFS1. It’s pricey and overkill for normal use, but it was what finally worked consistently for me back in my drag race days. This was ten plus years ago, and I was experimenting on launches in 1 psi increments.

I always had more faith in the non-digital gauges, but admittedly that’s my own quirk with nothing to quantitatively back that up.

Although I wish the gage was bigger and easier to read, it’s always been +/- 1%. Been nice to have around.

My made in USA Milton rocks and has for 10 years. Buy that trash from HF and regret it every time you use it

I have that same gauge and hate it. It is so hard to read that I can be off a lot just trying to read it.

Costs more than a good digital gauge, but it looks to be excellent quality.

They're unbelievable. The chucks in my link above are meant to go with an automatic dual truck tire pressure equalizing inflation system (hence the combination of long and short chucks for the inner an outer tires). You just press it on, and it seals and locks without any effort. Then grab the collar and pull, and it releases, again effortlessly.

Mac actually sells ALMOST the same chuck (same OEM, for MUCH less moolah). As far as I can tell, the above chuck is open style, so it will work with gauges on your inflater, whereas the Mac below is closed, and designed to be used at the end of an air line.

http://www.mactools.com/en-us/Brake...c91-4b87-85af-a585012f6581/Lock-On-Tire-Chuck

The action is very similar to the Haltec above, but is much more refined.

I only own the short version, and nothing else has been used on my car tires since I got it. It's only shortcoming is that it is straight. That's fine with straight in access on my cars, but doesn't work on my bicycles. So for those, I have a non-locking angled head. I'd really love the locking angled version of this, but can't bring myself to spend the dough.

If you want just the short chuck, this is the best source I've found:
