I recently replaced a furnace and air conditioning unit. Since the installer didn't offer anything for the old unit, I decided to recycle and repurpose what I could. Most went to the recyclers. However, I took the old furnace unit, cut it down, turned it upside down to create an upflow and turned it into an air circulator for the shop. My hope is that I can turn this on when doing those dust creating tasks and pull much of the dust into air filters, reducing the shop filth. Haven't yet had the time to try it out.

I started by cutting down the main cabinet.

This shows the upside down remainer of the cabinet with the cut off part to the right.

This shows the 3/4 inch tubing frame I made for the bottom of the cabinet and an insert panel to form the bottom of the air filter compartment.

The finished bottom

The finished air circulator.
