Air Compressor Air Smell

I recently serviced my 5hp compressor and changed the oil. As far as I know it had the original oil in it that was 10+ years old. After researching I settled on the Triax Kompressor MV ISO 100. I drained the old oil that was fairly black but full. My pump has a round "bullseye" sight glass on the side that I removed to clean the dark oil out of it so I could get an accurate reading when I refilled it. Refilled it with the Triax and ran it and let it sit to verify the correct level which is half way in the sight glass level with the red dot in the center. In the past the compressed air didnt have any sorta smell to it, but now it does. I am assuming the synthetic oil or additives to the oil is giving off the smell. Anyone else notice this?

As far as I can tell there is no oil on the air side. I have an after cooler with colascing filter that drains after it runs and I dont see any evidence of oil. I contacted Triax about it and after going back and forth with a customer service person, the engineer said it can happen and should go away after running it for some time. I'm guessing its kinda like switching to synthetic oil in an older car and having issues with it "using" oil. I am going to leave it in there for now and see what happens. The odor isnt bad, just different. If it doesnt go away I may switch back to dino non detergent 30w.
