Air Compressor Baffle / Noise Deducer?

I am looking for some compressor advice......I cannot stand the noise of a compressor in any garage. I am building a storage bunker for my compressor to live outside of my gargage....directly behind the garage. I plan on ventilating the compressor and at the same time insulating the contained compressor home for noise.

Is there a good baffle or noise reducer on the market that some of you have had good luck with in quieting your compressor.

Thank You,
Dan

I just saw one on here about a week ago. The poster made a small plate manifold and used 2 small black air filter/baffle things. I'll see if I can find it if no one else chimes in.

Will it hurt a compressor to operate in sub-freezing temps like we have in the mid-west? If not I would think about moving mine into an outside shed behind the shop to gain some space and reduce noise.

Mine has lived outside in temps from -20F to 115F for over 20 years. It's slow to start when the temps fall below about 32. I've only has to replace one cracked ball valve in the 13yrs I have owned it.

I have a 6'x8' lean-to shed off the back of my garage for the compressor and water heater, you can just barley her it running if you stop and listen. Just a standard stick built room osb/vinyl outside, insulation/sheetrock inside.. No additional muffling or sound reducing devices needed.

Just getting it out of the garage may be all that you need unless your compressor is a crazy loud oil-less style.

I have a 26 gal craftsman upright oil-free with no good way to thread a pipe fitting to it. I used some PVC fittings to make a muffler. A reducer fit the original filter cup and then ran to a 1" 90 and a 1" straight pipe up witch I drilled large 1/2" holes to create places for the sound to go. Then I wrapped it with foam and encased it with a 3" PVC pipe and some end caps. I drilled the end caps to accept the 1" perforated pipe. Painted it all black. killed about 50% of the sound. It also works well for storing those extra rolls of hose.

Run the inlet through the wall to the outside or up the wall into the attic. Anywhere other than the immediate area. Use some PVC pipe to make the run and make a custom air cleaner mount from PVE back to pipe.. Might not even need an air cleaner up in the attic. Trust me the only thing you will hear will be the motor..
