In the fall I had an issue with my old Craftsman air compressor. It tripped the breaker one day and would no longer start. When turning it on, it would just make a buzzing sound. I left it as is and just got around to taking a look at it. When i pulled the cover off the motor i found one of the capacitors had melted.
After some research I discovered they no longer make them. I bought a replacement dual run capacitor with the same specs. The issue i have is the original capacitor does not have the connections labelled. There are 2 red wires that go to terminals right next to each other. Then there is a gray wire that goes to a terminal on the other side of the capacitor. One of the red wires goes to a switch on the motor cap that is activated when the motor is spinning.
The new capacitor has Com, Fan, and Herm labelled but I am not sure how that translated to the old capacitor. Does anyone happen to be familiar enough to tell me which wires need to go on which terminals on the new capacitor?
