Need some advice on compressor discharge valve wear. I'm working on a Wayne T-46 two piston, single stage compressor pump that is the subject of another post.
I finally got hold of a socket big enough to get the discharge valve covers off. When I removed the valves to clean them up I found that the valve disks have been striking the inside of the valve housings. The disks have shaved thin several of the housing "posts" - the metal housing areas between the valve air holes. Pics attached show side views of a worn thin post and normal one. Wear is almost all the way through on several posts.
Cleaned the valves as whole pieces in an ultrasonic cleaner since I couldn't get them apart. The housing halves don't want to budge...didn't want to get too heavy handed and risk twisting them out of shape due to the thin post walls. Valves look fine / work fine other than the metal wear.
How big a concern are these thin post areas? Is this caused by having too much motor on the compressor? The motor is a 2hp, 230V, 3450 rpm Leeson Model M6C34DB8B and is not original to the compressor. My guess is the original was something like a 115/230V, 1 to 1 1/2 hp, 1745 rpm but no way to prove that.
