I see some have some kind of a 30a box with a double breaker shut off between the main panel and the air compressor. Is this a something that is necessary to do and what would I buy in the box stores. Thanks for the help.

Listen to the electricians not a DIYer like me, but I think electrical code requires a disconnect in line of sight on hardwired 240V devices. Some might say that does not mean it is necessary. I have one that is like a light switch — my 60 gallon compressor amp draw is within its rating, but more serious compressors likely need the higher rated box style disconnects. I am curious whether having the circuit breaker box located within sight is sufficient.

See similar things on AC condensers, non fused disconnect. Pull them out when working, required by code in the state. Maybe the same in other states. Forget where else I worked in one, but found the box full of ****.
