Air Compressor Electrical Startup Noise

I have a 240V air compressor in my basement that works fine, but if I have my 2 channel hifi system on in the living room, a loud pop comes through the speakers upon startup. It hasn't damaged any stereo components yet, but I'd like to figure out how to eliminate the pop. The compressor and stereo are on different circuits for what it's worth. Any idea what I can look into?

Probably the arc like others have pointed out.

Have you isolated where the pop is entering the audio system? Do you get it if you just use an integrated RF tuner (e.g. AM/FM on the amplifier) or is it only with a certain connected source (e.g. CD player). There might be some things you can do with ferrite chokes to rectify depending on how its happening.

Thanks, all. It does seem like it might have something to do with an arc somewhere, but it's odd that this is the only motor in the house that causes the pop.

I have not tried to isolated it because I feel like it's definitely caused by the compressor doing something it shouldn't do. There's an FM tuner, but it doesn't need to be turned on for the problem to occur.

Thanks! I'll look into this.
