Decided to free up a good amount of garage space by building a small outside building in the backyard just for the air compressor. This was already a fairly quiet compressor, but it's also nice not the hear it fire up if I'm out in the garage tinkering around late in the night. All the electrical is coming from a 50-amp breaker through a disconnect and into a 30-amp (compressor) and a 15-amp (outlet/cooling fans) branch circuits. It's all underground and the disconnect is in the garage on the wall. Ran the air above ground at the base of the house slab mostly through 3/4 copper with just a short piece of iron pipe. Never again will I use iron pipe, too many leaks and they are a ***** to fix. It's just a 2x4 framed building with a shingle roof and Hardie siding. All of the walls and the ceiling have fiberglass insulation and that is 3/4 MDF on the walls. I used two cheap bathroom vent fans out of the ceiling to cool the inside and the intake muffler is built into one of the walls. Both can draw fresh air in, but it is all baffled through a couple of chambers built into the walls. When the door is shut you can hear it, but it sounds about as loud as the air conditioner sitting right next to it. Super quiet compared to the way it used to be sitting in the garage.

Yeah I plan on getting some kind of thermostat in there before I just run it without worry, especially in the summer.

Some of those vibration pads mostly used on electrical transformers. I got them at Grainger and they're made by Mason.

Yes I have sand blasted with this compressor and it got pretty hot that day just sitting in the open air with a box fan on it. I'll probably add a pusher fan on the inside that will help pull fresh air in from the outside. Really this setup is overkill for what I use it for. There is no way it could be used in any kind of constant duty mostly sealed up like this.

Interesting.

I was planning to make a similar shed/leanto/enclosure, but have the back wall be the brick on the house. Once the compressor was in the garage, that idea faded unfortunately.

You might consider piping the air intake outside.

I'm also in TX and the side of the house by the garage gets full sun in the afternoon...

Some kind of thermostat controlled fan assisted vent on the roof would help a lot of the heat escape and draw in cooler air from those vents low on the structure.

It has two 60CFM fans that draw air in from the vent on the side of the building and then blow it out of the soffit area.

My mistake for not catching that. I can't see a problem then with it and you have a good looking dog (and the other ones ears look good also).

For my compressor box, I got a $10 indoor/outdoor thermometer, and put the 'outdoor' sensor in the box. I was surprised at how hot it got with passive cooling. And I was still a little surprised at how quickly things heated up with two circulation fans.

But the quiet is awesome.

There are two basset hounds and a SPCA mutt that "helped" with the project. In other words when I went inside for five minutes grab a drink they had unrolled a brand new roll of fiberglass insulation and had a party...

How much did it cost to make that compressor enclosure? Is it made out of 2x4s?
Got any more pictures?
Is that concrete pad a pre fab one like for an ac unit?
How does the inside get cool with just the fans?
How hot does it get in there?
That is a nice setup and is something i want to build for my compressor and hot water heater but in seperate units.
