Shut mine off, at both the shop and home garage, and flip the ball valve.

The tanks both retain pressure and are large enough that I often can do small jobs without even starting the compressor.

I flip the well breaker if i’m Going to be gone for an extended period, but it’s somewhat of an issue at the shop in the winter, as the pump house has a small electric resistance heater to maintain temperature above freezing, and since it’s on the same circuit as the pump, the heater switch is down at the pump, a 100’ walk through three feet of snow in the winter.

I’ll have to run another circuit someday.

We put all of our compressors on a simple timer switch instead of an on-off switch. In our home shop its a 2-hour one, in our manufacturing shop we have them on longer ones. If you forget to turn it off, the timer does it for you.

I like this setup. You added the red light? It's just a 120V pilot light?

Seems like the light would be a good visual indicator that the unit is ON, even if not pumping.

Yes I added the light. Just tied into the switched side of one leg of the 240 with a 120 volt neon indicator. My compressor is on the other side of the wall to keep noise down in the shop.

I am one of those that flips the main breaker when my day in the shop is done. Everything is dead.

Can someone post a link to a relay i can switch my 240v compressor off my shop lights? Its a 3hp i believe.

I use a Potter Brumfeld plug in relay by applying 120 power to the coil in it with the power from the light circuit, then use the output of the relay to control the 240 volt coil on the compressor. It is just wired in series with the pressure switch, so either will control the compressor when they both agree.Your compressor must have it’s own motor starter for this method, unless you get into a higher amperage class of relay that can handle the motor amperage, and then you are in motor starter territory.

Amazon also has a plug in base for this series of relays.
