getting ready to pull the trigger on a new compressor and I am looking for some suggestions on a filter/regulator setup. In the past Ive used whatever cheap general purpose filter that depot or whoever had on the shelf. This time though I am looking for a little better quality. I think a general purpose filter will do the job something like this

Anyone have any experience with these or something similar to these? Also any suggestions on plumbing them? I am planning on mounting the filter and regulator on the wall behind the compressor and running a flexible line of some kind from the compressor to the filter. any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've got the Devillbiss FinishLine filter for general use and have been happy with it. The "best" filter depends on your planned use. I've also got a different filter setup with dessicant for painting and a coalescing filter for media blasting.

the majority of my usage will be hand held air tools, with occasional use of a benchtop sandblaster. I have no issues oiling my tools each day before use, so a lubricator is not necessary.

I like to pick compressors that have pipe thread inlets - then i can attach a filter/silencer to it without making adapter plates and threading holes in them.

filters on the pressure side go by drops - i don't bother for tools.

I think I have figured out what I am going to use, but I would like some opinions before I make the order. Ingersoll rand regulator and filter. regulator model R37341-600, and filter model FA40IG. Compressor stats are 15 CFM at 175 psi. I plan to use 1/2 hose from the compressor ball valve to the reg and filter mounted on the wall. From there, I will use either 3/8 or 1/2 hose to run tools. Does this sound about right? opinions welcome.
