Hey all

Im posting a question for my dad who just got an eastwoods versacut 40 plasma cutter and is deciding on an air compressor. He does backyard sculpting and has a pretty good set of powertools but im sure he might be convinced to start going to pneumatic eventually. Hes looking for a good compressor in the 30 gallon $300-550 range. Ive counciled him to avoid oilless. Real stuff like ingersoll rand is out of the price range and he's a buy it new kind of guy so were talking amazon, hd etc. is there a big difference between dewalt, husky, even harbor freight (dont laugh, some get great reviews) at this price range?

Thanks and merry xmas to all

The three you mentioned are all made in China. HF may not have as good parts availability over time as the others though.
I wouldn't consider HF unless they were local and you could pick it up. That way, if it was DOA, you could bring it back.

Also wondering how norther tool is with warrantee claims my mail? We are in ny and there are no stores for miles. 4 years is great coverage, but would we have to cover shipping? I know eastwoods for instance makes life very easy, sending ups prepaid to pick up old parts and overnighting new ones...

I happen to have that exact IR compressor at work. It is GREAT! Very quiet for a compressor.
A little small, but more than plenty to run a plasma cutter.
