air compressor has to much oil

I recently flat blacked a friends honda del sol in exchange for a snap on bra5dv30vp air compressor. The guy takes really good care of his tools so I never checked the oil in the compressor until today. I had noticed small amounts of oil around the vent hole on the dip stick tube. When I checked it today the oil looks fresh and clean but is about 1/4" over the max fill line on the dip stick. Should I drain a little oil from the compressor?

I will not belittle myself to say what I am thinking about your remark you made before you edited it Zrexxer about sucking the oil out. I was unaware if it being a little overfull would hurt. Thanks for making my day.

Before you start making judgements about my post before I edited it, let's be clear on what I said: I said that you could either drain some out, or you could **** it out of the fill hole. As in using a Mityvac or a siphon, which for a small quantity might be less messy than draining with the inherent possibility for spills.

SO... belittle yourself all you like. I won't be helping you in the future.

Had the compressor just been running? What was the temperature like today when you checked the oil level? This will affect the outcome of your results.

I understood sucking the oil out as in using a mityvac. Not sure why op has an issue with this method. But, then again, why go to an Internet forum for advice on this "issue"?

Go buy $3 worth of compressor oil, drain it all, and fill it to the proper level. Real difficult. :lol_hitti Let us know if you have any issues with pet hair in your tool box. :willy_nil

Option 1) I mean, I'd change the oil just for peace of mind, like ^ said, it's a few bucks... I splurged on synthetic RP for a whopping $19/qt., compared to a $400+ pump.

Option 2) Run the sumbitch for a bit, and immediately after, look at the dipstick and see if the oil is foamed all to hell. If not, screw it. I have the oil in my compressor a hair above the top of the dot in the sight glass, puts it right in the middle of the dot while it's running and it doesn't foam up. I figure if it's not foaming, more oil while running > being below the dot while running, which is what happens if you fill it to "correct".
