I have a chance to buy an air compressor. I don't know anything about them and would appreciate your knowledge. This seller does not know much except it was in his Grandfathers garage.

Here is the info: 5 Hp. 3 phase 440 or 220 volt.

Does anyone know what brand/model this might be and what I should pay for this?

Thank you for your help.

Joel.

I know that Champion used to paint theirs that color green. I just bought one off of E Bay after going through what you seam to be, looking and not knowing. This one looks like it's been rode hard and put away wet a lot. So you may be looking at a rebuild. My new 2 stage 5 horse Chicago Pneumatic was in the $850 range with a 2 year warranty on it.

I think I'd skip it, unless it's dirt cheap and you can move it easily.

I'd definitely want to make sure the tank was good before using it. There was a thread a couple weeks back of a 20 gallon tank exploding..Can't imagine the damage a 80 gallon explosion would cause!

Thanks guys.
I'm going new then. I'm tired of dicking around with all these Craigslist ads.

I live in northern Michigan. I have a few stores a drive away. They would be Home Depot & Lowes. Would you know if their $800 compressors are any good or should I hit a big city like Grand Rapids, Lansing, Traverse City and what brand would/should I get there.
I thought the stuff at those stores were cheaper as the were made only for one sale or whatnot. I need parts down the road.

Or I guess another question would be: What brand & model would you get if you wanted one for around $800.

Thank you again folks.
