I inherited a compressor that was sitting outside for years and was originally purchased at Sam's club around 1997. It has Made in The USA stamped on the front. Stamping on the casting vt0407, it is a 5 hp compressor pump 1990's.
The head leaks and I could not remove the old gasket for fear of scoring the head. I tried a thin layer of Ultimate Grey RTV on both sides (see the third photo) and torqued the head bolts to 20Lbs and it leaked. Now I am afraid the copper tubing compression fittings are going to leak after another round of tightening - one was leaking ever so slightly that I could live with.
1) Can I use more RTV
2) should I torque to a higher value - 30 or 40Lbs? - I do not want to over-torque
3) Has anyone seen this compressor and know where I could get a head gasket? - The cylinders are 70mm in diameter
Thank you
