Hi all,
I have an old Sanborn "Black Max" compressor. It is a 240V, 5 HP, 60 gallon upright. I did not see any information on the compressor unit itself. However, it apprears to be 2 cylinders. I know it is not two stage.
I am not at home to get the model number. I can get it tomorrow if it is needed. I think the original owner purchased it in the early 90s.
I have been reading the many threads about the intake being a huge part of the noise. I thought I would investigate mine and see if a silencer would fit.
Here is what I found.... It appears to be some sort of metallic screen. It is coated in many colors of automotive paints. Yellow seems to be the latest. I cannot see any way that it is fastened in. Running my fingers over it..I could not feel any openings behind it that seem big enough for any sort of pipe fitting or anything.
Does anyone have a clue what I should do?
Just additional pic of compressor itself:
