Air compressor intake

I am redoing my intake. I have been looking at the solberg silencer/filter. The question I have is would the solberg filter be better at filtering and quieting or should I use something like a k and n with a outerwears cover and a muffler. The cost for either setup is going to be close so I want the one that is going to work the best.

Thanks for the help.

Find out the micron level filtered for each style and then decide. I'm not too sure how well the K & N filters out particles. They advertise more horsepower with their product. Do they get it by passing more air? If that's the case then they probably sacrifice micron level.

I have an Ingersoll T30 7.5HP industrial grade compressor. It has the IR filter/silencer and the intake noise is practically nonexistent.

In my experience, dry paper filters do just fine and last a long time. Many of the OEM dry elements can be cross-referenced by OEM number or by size to elements sold at the auto parts store. If you are putting something together, choose one that has elements available locally, preferably a common unit that your supplier keeps in stock. Many of the elements available are for smaller gas engines, like Briggs and Kohlers. Avoid the special shaped ones and design for a common round element. These elements are designed to carry more air than the compressor uses and to protect the piston/rings of a similar-sized reciprocating motor.

Get a Solberg, size which is double or triple the original size..long term cheaper/and extended replacement, less restriction especially as it get dirty. When I purchased mine there was a choice of micron filter sizes, believe it was 8 or 2 microns, went with the finer filter core.

K&N filters are typically sprayed with filter oil and that oil traps the particles and is periodically cleaned off and they are re oiled.

On a compressor this could lead to oil being drawn in with the intake air and if your painting this could cause serious problems.

Go on line and look at Solberg filters, for silencing. I found mine there and bought it through Grainger. It has done wonders for my old 80 gal Sanborn!!

This is what I was thinking about doing. Attached is the small filter that came with a rebuild kit. The compressor will be outside in south east tn. Do a lot lf people put larger filters on?
