I was given a 60 gallon compressor tank, so I put my compressor and motor on it and want to locate it in the loft of my barn. Total run of pipe would be about 50 feet with 4 foot drops. I have access to all the 1/2 inch galvanized that I need, but don't know if the is big enough. Any help appreciated.

I'd go with either 3/4" or 1" for the main line & use the 1/2" for your drops. Check out www.oldsmobility.com there is a lot of information on piping sizes & how to run it to keep from having water problems. I have 45' of 1" & can actually run small airtools with the compressor tank valve turned off just off the air in the lines for a short time.
