Where is a good place to put the air compressor so that you either don't have to hear it or it isn't so loud? Will it hurt it to be outside? Something built around it of course. I didn't know if the cold wold hurt it, although my garage isn't heated and it will be in there, or if the heat in the summer would hurt it, although the garage isn't air conditioned either. I could have a door to open in the summer to let air in though (if put outside).

Thanks,
Gary

Put it outside in an enclosure. Make sure to use the appropriate weight oil for the temperature in winter and summer months. Too thick an oil in the winter can make it hard to start and or increase wear.

I've heard of some guys putting a low wattage incandescent light in the enclosure to heat the space in the winter.

Just sound proof it well via insulation. Make an a vent system that you can close in the winter and open in the summer. At least in the winter it might a little quieter. Face the vent away from their house to avoid direct sound.

My air compressor is in a 6'x10' mechanical room behind the shop, along with the the electrical service panels.

The walls and roof are the normal metal siding/roofing material with 1/4" insulation on the roof and one side, the side with the electrical panels is a double wall with OSB on both sides, side facing the shop is 8" fiberglass insulation and the fourth wall, with the door is 5/4" treated deck boards. There is a earthern bank behind the shop.

When the compressor kicks on, you can barely hear it run inside or outside the shop, and certainly not at the house.

Good idea on those vibration isolators, especially hockey pucks!! I used some left over rubberized carpet from car stereo stuff I had laying around. Folded into a square. And made an easy drain too.

Oh thanks! I never thought about that, eliminate hard metal contact plus vibration on the anchors too. That should definately help some on this loud single stage I have.

U R welcome. I did a lot of vibration isolation, noise elimination, and sound deadening back in the day. I am definitely a novice at it tho compared to others I know. ;)
