I have a Saylor-Beal 5hp, 80 Gallon compressor and need to change the oil in it. I'm not sure what I need so am looking for suggestions on what oil to get and how much I need. It has a glass window for checking the oil level. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Look on the manufacturer's site for the reccommended oil, but the 9000 series SB I run at work specify a 30 weight non detergent. I get it from Car Quest.

Should be able to google it to find out what SB recommends for their heads. It's not gonna take much to fill it up though..

For my SB 120 gal., I get some stuff from McMaster-Carr, sold by the Gallon or so. I don't recall how much it takes, but less than a gallon.

Mobil Rarus 427, can be purchased at McMaster Carr.

Rarus 427 would work IF the compressor is kept in a heated area, mine is in an unheated shop which can go down to 0*F & at those temps I went with Amsoil PCK & never had a problem

Saylor-Beal told me they use Citgo 30W but any 30W Reciprocating Compressor Oil is ok to use.

YMMV but I stopped using 427 after noting a marked increase in carbon on the valves and pistons. Went back to synthetic. My compressor manu recommends both depending on use profile.
