Hey everyone, longtime follower here. Love the advice and knowledge I've picked up on here. You've saved my rear end more than a handful of times, trust me.

But here's my problem. I bought a Master Craft air compressor a couple years back off of Amazon and started having trouble with it building pressure in the tank. Once it got to 25 psi, it just kept running without building anymore pressure on the tank. In between all of this, I had an issue with the electricity in my garage and when I turned the compressor on, all I got was a low humming sound coming from it. I suspect a bad capacitor on that problem.

So once I took off the capacitor, I figured I'd go ahead and check the reeds and gaskets on the pump and that's when I found out the head on the pump had cracked and part of it broken off. Will post pics once I figure out how.

Unfortunately, I have had no luck finding a replacement head, so I was wondering what my options could be? Cut my losses and buy a new compressor? I hate to do that, seeing as how everything else on it is in good working order. Is there anywhere that even sells small direct drive piston pumps? Can I convert to belt driven setup?

It's a 3.5 hp motor, tank capacity is 10 gallon. Any information is appreciated!!

If you have a manual with parts list just run a search for that part number and see what comes up. You might be suprised.

I blew up my direct drive piston and rod. Did a search and found out a lawnmower shop by where i work carried the parts and they was cheaper than mfg website.

I would go old school and get out the yellow pages and look up air compressor repair shops in you area and make some calls. Maybe someone will have parts or direct you in the right direction.

Good Luck

A direct drive oiled compressor that broke? Seems like a good excuse to upgrade to me. Check your local craigslist for deals.

Mastercraft phone line is 1-800-689-9928.
any markings on the pump to indicate a manufacturer? Could be a pump manaufactured overseas.
You can also look on CL for compressors. Maybe someone has one with a bad tank.

None. And I've gone over it with a magnifying glass. Mastercraft hotline was no help. Wasn't wanting to drop money on a whole new compressor, but it looks like that's what I'm gonna have to do :(

I was hoping I could turn it into a belt driven setup using the motor that came off of it mated to a different pump, but now I'm not sure that's a viable option. Just thought it might be a fun project and learning experience. :(

See if there's a way to unbolt the motor from the pump, if so you might be able to put a pulley on the output shaft to drive a belt. That motor is nowhere near 3.5 hp though, all marketing fluff, maybe 1 hp on a good day. There are Chinese belt driven pumps all over eBay for under $100, never used one but might be worth a shot. Also there are tons of small older compressors on CL that you could salvage a pump and maybe a motor from, just find one with a rusty or leaking tank and make a deal.

Upon closer inspection, that pump looks a bit like the one on the 21 gallon upright compressor from Harbor Freight. If so, you might be able to order replacement parts from them if you really want to fix this one.
