I have a line on a compressor produced by Woods Industries Inc (Mississippi), that is no longer manufactured. The company still exists, assembling compressors under the Eagle and Iron Horse brands.

The model in question is the PowerTrain TG-20G (Manf No. MCO22244). There isn't any information on the internet; just a few auction listings. Obviously, it needs a carb, so I am wondering which Honda model was cloned. Additionally, I am seeking general feedback. Are they total junk or worth putting some work into? Selleris asking $200.

looks like it's sat outside a good part of it's life. it's not running? I see the recoil is off. . seems a bit bit high price , but I'm cheap & with this market everything is skyrocketing.
Carb should be fairly easy to locate a knock off , a few measurements and some correspondence on ebay would get you one in short order I think . perhaps the original can be cleaned too

Make an effort to determine the size of the engine, then check on Amazon for a Carb to fit an engine of that size.

The ad claims that the engine and pump work; carb is missing. I wasn't going to drive an hour without some idea of the risks.

It probably spent it's life on a farm pick up. It would meet the same fate in my possession.

with it not running, missing carb & recoil off , I would not pay the asking price. too many variables.
go see if it turns over , and has compression . see if the pump turns and pumps ( does it make a greeeech sound when you turn it ?).
to me, as it sits is a $50 item.
if you get it, put the recoil on, squirt some gas in the plug hole and see if it fires , ( I would also try squirting fuel into the intake and try to keep it running) check the tank for leaks with compressed air from another compressor
if you get it running, try to locate a carb.
or
buy a new motor for it

If engine is not shot and seized, Pump pumps... It's worth it. But I would still show up and offer less. Today thats $800+ easy to replace new, probably closer to $1200.
Engine parts are the easy things to acquire. Engine model and serial numbers will be stamped on the tins or case somewhere. Carb will also have numbers on it that will help you get a replacement. China carbs are under $20 on amazon and I have had good luck with the few I have replaced. New carb will also have adjustment screws, original carb may not have or be able to be adjusted thanks to EPA regs.

Would be a good idea to have the tank inspected with scope. If that thing is rust on the outside, who knows what the inside looks like. Could be near explosive territory.

$1400 for a 20 gal. NorthStar branded Chinese special.

I disagree finding parts, unless one has explicit knowledge of engine and pump clones. Crossing a long discontinued item can be quite difficult. I cannot find any such information about the above compressor. Woods Inc has no reference either; only current branding is supported.

I emailed Woods, but I also wanted a consensus or fast answer from the Hive Mind.

Some make this harder than it is. I asked my local lawnmower shop to mix my shredder, they sent it home no charge, they could not find the carb, so could not get parts, so could not fix.

Got it home, pulled the engine model number, had a carb in the mail the next day. Thanks Google.

Next time it needed work, I went elsewhere.

Pump looks like a Chinesium Puma. Personally $200 for a non-running 15 SCFM compressor with unknown issues is high.

I'd pass on it as well . . . if I'm going to spend $ on a non-functional compressor, it had better be a quality pump.
