Air Compressor Project???

Hi All,
I have an older Campbell Hausfeld 20 gallon, cast iron,horizontal compressor.
Thanks to my laziness and the limited access in the corner the tank has pinholes from rusting. The compressor,motor and pressure switch are fine.
Specs are :
3.5 HP 7.9cfm@40psi, 6.4 cfm@90psi, 115/230volts -15/7.5amps

I have a used but I think solid 20 gallon tank from a Speedaire compressor that work was scrapping.I could swap everything over to that tank and use until something great comes along/sell to help offset cost to upgrade

I realize the new ones are more $$ but I would have some type of warranty.
I do not use the compressor alot/continous/daily .It is frustrating to wait to fill each and every time I want to use air though.
I use air several ways,nail guns,spray guns,impact tools,die grinders,etc.
Again not constant/professional type setting.


I do have 220 in the garage so compressor would be plug and play,no new wiring needed.

Putting the compressor you have now on a 80gallon tank will really end up taxing the little unit by exceeding the on portion of the duty cycle it was designed for. You are increasing the work time needed by 4x what it was designed for. Granted that is one of the much better units, but still not the best thing to do.

If the husky is truly like new, $300 would be OK-ish. It's a standard 60gal 10cfm@90psi job.

Did you check this one out? I started with one of these and they are pretty nice if properly maintained. USA made pump.

If a guy can cobble a deal for free its a plus, if I had to put 250 in it I wouldn't, I would buy a new Puma pos type unit ready to go, I think they are 500 or so. Like the ones in the link he posted above.

This is the way I would go.

You could still swap out the tanks on your current compressor, and sell it to offset cost.

I would look into this as well, looks like a nice unit.
