Hello GJF members , can anyone suggest to me why my 110 v wheel barrow compressor 20 gallon I believe , loses air when not in use ? I don't believe I have an air line leak . Is air supposed to dissipate ? Or could I have a leak in the tank due to age ?

When air is pumped under hi compression for a long time it shrinks some when it cools, then dissipates. The way to keep it from happen is to leave the tank empty, then the pressure is the same in as out and it doesn't do this.

The only places the tank can leak from are the check valve, T-block and associated fittings like coupler, gauge, or pressure safety switch, and tank itself. Isolate and determine. The cooling effect after a compressor has been running is a small factor that will not drain a tank. In el cheapo compresors I've used, tank leaks are usually obvious either by leaks in the secondary hot dog and, or by water ******* out in the case of a single primary tank. Check valve leaks are fairly common. Air could even be leaking out the tank drain... they are notoriously leaky if using stock style thumbwheel valves in place of a proper ball valve.

Even better, you could ask on the electric forum how to reverse the motor, run it as a vacuum then instead of leaking out it would pull air in when the unit was off, reverse disappation. Not sure how effecient it would be, an electrician may know though.

C'mon sberry. Spinning in reverse won't change that, got to go to plumbing forum and ask about plumbing it in backwards.
