Air Compressor Pulley

I have a Quincy 325 form the early 80s. I rebuilt it, but the old motor went out, and I lost the pulley. I am looking at a 5 H.P., 3450 RPM, 19 amp 230 single pahse compressor duty motor. The pump has the original pulley on it, maybe 16-18" diameter. What size pulley do I need? My main goal is quiet operation, this compressor is in my garage at home and won't see a lot of heavy use.

The preferred motor would turn at 1725 RPM.

At 5 HP, the 325 is designed to run at 796 RPM.

That's a 7.4" sheave with a 1725 RPM motor and 3.7" at 3450 RPM motor.

Thanks! Is it bad to use the 3450 RPM motor and slow it down with a pulley? Most I see are 3450 RPM, the 1725 RPMs are about double the price.

I am not sure what kind of pricing you are looking at. You can get a Baldor 5HP 1725 RPM motor for $350 on eBay shipped to your door. L1410T/L1430T. I figure all the high end compressors use 1725 RPM motors for a reason but I am not a motor expert. If the sheave is too small I would be concerned that it had enough "grip" to turn that big pump.

Thats a very good price for a Baldur motor . I used to work as an industrial technician and when we 're replaced bad motors anywhere from 2 hp and up we used b a l d o r and those motors ran 24/7

I m looking at a low budget model for $200. This is for my home garage. I see what you mean about the small pulley gripping the belt. I will be using two belts.

Got mine, couple years back, think $225, was a pull, but brand new not even a scratch.

Sure you might get a deal here and there, $350 is going price "all day long" non-sale price.

Good plan, the 1725 motors have double the torque of the 3450 motors.
