Dewalt 80 gallon air compressor 5 horse motor. Air compressor starts old fine then starts getting slow and then binds up if I put my finger over the air intake it picks right back up again immediately until I let my finger off. I've already replaced the switch assembly which did nothing and then I replaced the valve that screws into the tank with a big copper hose that goes to the head of the air pump and a smaller hose that goes to the switch that didn't help either. I know it's out of warranty now but it's basically new

Does the motor slow down or keep spinning in full speed?

1. Remove the belt and see if the motor runs fine.
2. Run the compressor for a bit until it stops. Remove the big copper tube going into the check valve. Does air leak out of the tube (it should not). Can you run the unit with the copper tube disconnected to see what happens?

If the motor continues to run a full speed in the pump slows down there’s a very good possibility. The belt is slipping.
It might just need to be tightened or replaced

so the motor stays running, the compressor slows down? belt tension/wear is your issuehe motor doesn't slow down.It stays at the same speed
that won't have anything to do with your issueI'll try disconnecting the copper tube once it builds pressure and see if it leaks
could try to tighten it but it's probably well worn & needs replacement . 5hp should really have 2 belts in my opinion
