I have a Quincy 325 I am plumbing into a Manchester 80 gallon tank with top plate. The tank has a 1 1/4" FPT port for the pump discharge. The pump is 3/4 FPT. My plan is to use a 1 1/4" in tank check valve and a stainless braided PTFE hose. I am having trouble finding a source for a premade hose, sources? Thanks all.

If I'm understanding this correctly, You need a 1 1/4 Male to 3/4 Female bushing to bring the tank down to 3/4. There is no practical reason for a 3/4 to 1 1/4 hose. Edit: To clarify, the hose is your restriction at 3/4 so there is no reason you need a larger inlet at the tank for this application. 3/4 will flow far more than that pump could ever put out. Regarding your choice of hose, I'd bet that discharge temperature is upwards of 300 degrees (easily) so be careful about your choice of discharge hose and it's ability to both handle and dissipate heat. It could be problematic with extended use if not properly selected.

Edit: Link below is for example only, look for something better quality and rated for higher working pressure.

That is a fine solution. I am having trouble locating a quality hose though. Many people say to use a hydraulic hose, though they are not rated for the temperature.

McMaster has some stainless braided hoses, but I'm not sure about temp ratings. But most large diameter stainless braided hoses are extremely inflexible and will require very large bend radii. My Quincy uses a bent copper tube from the pump to the tank.

Having a true understanding of the temp requirements would be good. That could either open up a lot of choices or narrow it down to many less depending on what the value is. Any way to get that in use?

You could try calling Pirtek and discuss the application with them. They may have an offering and will make exactly what you want.

Why would you say that? Hydraulic oil can get very hot, so it would surprise me to find hydraulic hoses couldn’t withstand several hundred degrees.

I would expect the discharge temperature on a compressor like that to get up around 200-230°F after prolonged running. Possibly hotter.

Also, are you sure you need a check valve? Most larger pumps like that don't need a check valve, because the unloader is on the intake valves.

I don't know what the discharge temp on my 7.5 HP Quincy is other than the pump discharge tube is waaay too hot to touch for more than a second. So, probably over 200F
Why not just use a copper tube like Quincy does?

I do not want to use copper tube because I do not have the bender or flaring tool for 3/4". I have also heard of people having issues with the copper tubing cracking from vibration.

Outlet temp of an air compressor is between 200-300 degrees Fahrenheit. Most hydraulic hoses are rated to 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

I know by design I do not need a check valve, but would like to include one. Call it the belt and suspenders approach.

I would not use a hose with PTFE, or any kind of plastic, in that application.
I would use the hose pictured above as it is convoluted stainless steel if I had to use hose.
I like the copper tube like all the OEMs use, but I have access to tubing benders up to 2” locally and 5/8” personally.

Hydraulic oil should never be 300*. Even 200* would be super hot.

I would use copper... and if I didn't have a bender, I would heat it up to anneal it, fill it with sand and do the best I could to bend it. or use some fittings & silver solder them. the flex lines will not hold up to that temperature in my mind.

Use soft copper and compression fittings, mine has been running 10 years without issue.
You can even coil it to act as a cooler to aid in condensing the moisture out.

you're on the right track with that material . you probably can hand bend it without using a cylindrical object , soft copper is quite easy to work with ... 3/4 will be a bit tough tho . I would just try to feehand bend it first

Appreciate it! I fit pipe on Navy ships and have a tendency to over do it, everything must be Mil-Spec. Literally. :lol:

There are all sorts of stories on the internet about one in a million failures that get amplified as common. The copper outlet tube on my compressor has been on there for 20 years and no failure. I'm sure there are compressors used in commercial applications that are 40+ years old and copper. Again, if you use a braided hose you are going to need huge bend radii.

Find a plumbing supply house and they will probably sell the length you need off a coil you'll just need to straighten the ends.

Lowe's by me has it on clearance for $2.54 for a 10' section. I'll grab one tonight on the way home from dinner. 10' will give me plenty to plumb in an after cooler some time down the road. At this point, I just need to get this thing up and running. I have WAY too much time and money wrapped up in it now.

copper tubing from Lowes $2.54 does not sound right, 3/4 refrigeration tubing is .75 O.D. The 3/4 copper tubing lowes and HD sell is .875 O.D. nominal copper tube size. 10' of 3/4 L copper sells for about $40.00
