I have a over 25 year old Campbell Hausfeld 60 gallon compressor that the pump is shot, the pump is obsolete so I was wondering if pumps from all brands are close enough that they could be made to work with minimal modifications.

You can swap pumps all day long as long as they meet up with the rest of the compressor. Typical differences include motor speed and HP, motor sheave, tubing, and bolt pattern of the pump. You can redrill the tank plate for a different bolt pattern, and go with flexilble hose and different adapters or rebend copper tube. If the pump running RPM is different you'll need to change out the motor sheave (pulley). Depending on what compressor you have, it may be cheaper to replace the entire thing and sell the rest on Craigslist. Tanks rot out from the inside out. It would be a shame to pour money into a compressor where the tank is marginal at best.

I replaced the pump on my 1990 vintage compressor last year. I used aircompressorsuperstore on eBay. Real name is Green Valley Compressor.

In the link above you will find a chart for horsepower/pump speed/pressure. with other information. The chart is an example of range a pump can cover by changing a few variables. If you can find a pump with the same rpm's and horsepower then it should be easy. I realize the chart is for Kellogg pumps but most manufactures have something similar. Notice that speed and pressure are inverse, no free lunch here.

good luck
