Air Compressor Question

Hello,

I love this site. Just bought a house and have noticed a lot of questions i Google will end up bringing me to this forum, so I registered. Tons of knowledge in this forum. So my father-in-law passed and I was left with his DeWalt D55146 Emglo compressor recently. I plugged it in today and noticed it was spitting out a lot of rusty water. ran it for 5 or so minutes and still doing same thing. Question is.... is there a remedy process for this? It seems to hold pressure well and looks like it was never used. However, he passed 2 years ago and it had been sitting for 2 years without being drained.. Thanks in advance for any help.

spitting rust water out of what? the drain in the bottom of the tank, or the air hose? need more information.

its needs to be drained though, first things first.

sorry, i should have been more clear. It is spitting rust water out of the drain in bottom of tank. I inspected the compressor upon receipt and the first thing i did was open the drain and see rust water come out. I then ran it for a while with drain open after tapping with rubber mallet to try and dislodge some of the stored debris.

How bad is the rusty water? This is pretty normal for all compressors.

well, when i let it run with the drain open it spits out some intermittent water that is rusty in color. They operating pressure is stable, so no issues there. I didn't see any chunks coming out after tapping on it or shaking it. I wouldn't normally do that, but this model says it can be stood upright or horizontally. It's 4.5 gallons, so I'm sure it won't be my long-term solution, but definitely an improvement over the 2 gallon Husky.
