Air compressor question

Greetings! I have what I hope is an easy question, but can’t seem to find a good primer (no pun intended) on the subject.

I own a husky, 4 gallon, 125 max psi, 3.7 scfm at 90 psi. My goal is to be able to do some light paint spraying, ie auto trim, wheels, and maybe my truck bed (5.5’ long) with u-pol/raptor using an lvlp spray gun with inline water filters.

Is this feasible? Tips/advice/resources are all welcome!

With a larger tank you could struggle through a paint job using a 120V compressor. That compressor (I have a similar 4 gallon twin tank) doesn't have the pump to keep up nor the large tank that would let you paint-wait-paint. I think you are asking for great frustration.

I’ve never airbrushed before, and was debating airbrushing v plasti-dip or rustoleum spray paint. If airbrushing isn’t an option I may roll the bed, just spray the other stuff, or vinyl wrap depending on the particular project.

Airbrushing something the size of a pick up bed would be challenging to say the least. With a decent airbrush, you would be looking at maybe 8-10 hours of continuous spraying.

not at 3.7 cfm. I think 12 - 15 cfm is where the compressor will not be strained. I tied two 7.5 cfm compressors that size together in parallel at the tanks and that works at about 75% - 90% when I am spraying anything. Even so I have to keep fans aimed at the cylinders to keep them cool. If yours is a buzz motor it won't hold up to heavy use. My 2 cents worth.

Thanks all! Sounds like I should stick to spray paint/plasti-dip until I can upgrade the equipment or just pay to have it done. I appreciate the honest feedback!
