I'd get the Puma between those 2.. and 2 Solberg filters for it.

and probably some vibration isolating feet.

However I'm a fan of overbuying a little bit, as your needs might expand a little... and you have the available power/capacity.

while 60 gallon is probably enough size, can the pump keep up? etc.

Yeah, what kinds of tools do you expect to use? I'd look for the highest cfm pump that fits your budget.

If you can scrape up another $300 I'd get this unit:

http://www.harborfreight.com/5-hp-60-gallon-165-psi-two-stage-air-compressor-93274.html

Contrary to popular belief it's not Chinese!! It's an AO Smith motor, European Pump and made in USA tank. (rebranded Bel Aire 216V)

It has a very good reputation.

Not real fond of the 90 day warranty, but it does have good reviews.

The most demanding tool that I would ever use is a die grinder, and it would be in short succession (making AN lines)

Those seem perfectly adequate, even a little overkill, if the most you will do is short bursts with a die grinder. It's also enough for impact wrenches and such things where you are not running them for long periods. Some (not all) sprayers and most sanders and air saws are the big air users.

Buy used. Lots of people buy compressors and don't use them much. You can save 1/3 to 1/2 the price of new.

I would buy whatever has the best or easiest warranty as you likely wont be able to get parts for either in the future. Personally, I would get an Ingersoll Rand or something made in USA that will have support down tbe road.

I'll never buy another from lowes. Before they rebranded cambell hausfeld as kobalt I got one for Christmas. Went home to turn it on and it didn't work. We went off to visit family, I thought I'd return it when we got back. So I went in to lowes with my receipt to exchange it. Between December and January all their cambell hausfeld compressors were rebranded as kobalt. The clerk went and found the exact same compressor except it said kobalt by cambell hausfeld and the manager refused to exchange it and told me to contact cambell myself.

When I called cambell hausfeld they sent the request to a "service" center, the closest being an hour away. When I arrived with the compressor they were closed.

So 3 years later I have the same broken compressor.
