Air Compressor Recommendations

I am considering a couple of models:

Quincy QT-54 (model 2V41C60VC)
Dewalt (model DXCMV5048055)

Both are the same price in my area. The Dewalt has a larger tank, higher CFM and a better panel layout. I believe some of Dewalt's compressors are made by Industrial Air but not sure about this one.

Does anyone have any recommendations between the two or maybe something even better for a $1300 price point?

It will be used in a home garage for auto restoration.

Just took delivery of a QT-54 yesterday. Have not hooked it up, but the decision was made based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews, the fact it was made in the US, and the warranty.

After a little more research, it appears that the Dewalt unit is the same as Industrial Air (model IV5048055). I don't know much about that brand other than it is part of Sanborn MFG in MN.

It has a built-in tank pressure gauge, air pressure regulator, regulated pressure gauge and two air line outlets.

They claim the compressor is made in the US with domestic and foreign components.

I like the specs but I can't find many reviews about the quality.

They are a fairly close match on the specs.
The Quincy is rated for 100% duty cycle. The Dewalt is 80%
The Quincy is 15.2CFM@175psi versus 13.5cfm@175psi for the Dewalt
The Quincy is $150 cheaper (reference northerntool.com)
The Dewalt tank is 80 gallons versus 60 gallons on the Quincy. (I'd rather have the larger CFM than tank)

I think I'd buy the Quincy.

You said the Dewalt has higher CFM? That's not what I'm reading

Looks like a better motor on the Quincy. Quincy is rated as being quieter, although a video I saw of one running makes me question that. Pump rpm is pretty high on the Quincy, so it might be a bit tiresome to work around after awhile, but that's remedied with some sound attenuation. The DeWalt looks like it uses a FuSheng/Curtis pump. I see them around a lot on many different brands. I have no direct experience with them but I have no reason to believe they are ****. I'd really like to see them both running.

I saw the parts breakdown of that "DeWalt" pump on a skid at Princess Auto and it definitely did not have disc valves in it. I doubt DeWalt has a special run made just for them. Could be wrong but I doubt it.

Yeah, and the V pump shown is single stage based on having air filters on both cylinders. In fact, if you look at the pics of the 5hp replacement pump HF sells, it looks identical to the V pump in the Lowe's ad.

Seems like neither Lowe's nor Home Depot have anyone on staff that knows anything at all about useful tool specs or even legitimate ones. Disc valves - no way. PSI means "pressure per square inch"... what kind of pressure? pounds? kilograms? metric tons? And of course the motor has an internal thermal overload to "protect the motor from voltage fluctuations". Idiots.

A closer look and you can tell that's just a different model. Notice the V-twin has handles to roll it around. It was probably this model

My vote is for the Quincy. I have owned one for about a year and a half and love it. Had some minor problems when I took delivery - pressure relief valve broke during shipping. Called Quincy, text them a picture of the problem and they sent a repair man out to fix it (a 1 1/2 hr drive one way for the repair guy). So excellent customer service. I don't think you would get that kind of response with the Dewalt.

Check out Rural King. They offer a stripped down version of the Dewalt. No panel with regulator and gauge. Everything else is the same and it's under $1000.00
I have one and use it almost daily. Invest in the extended warranty oil, belt and filter package. Well worth the cost.

With the warranty package, is it onsite service or would you have to take it to a service center if something went wrong?
