Is there any advantage to mounting the pump remotely on a skid? Was wondering if remote mounting with 30ft or so of pipe would help with removing moisture from the system.

Well, a tank works for removing water because the velocity of the air "slows" as it enters the tank-simple physics. The pipe would just cause more "restriction" (friction loss), especially if black-iron was used-it will rust.
Not sure if plastic could handle the heat-when you compress air, you also generate heat.

So use good size copper, restriction is minimized, no rust issues and a great conductor:beer:

The long length will work as a heat sink. Just ensure you have a water trap built in. The other bonus is by remotely mounting the pump is lower volume in the shop/garage.

It would be nice to mount the compressor in my mechanical room in my loft so I wouldn't have to listen to it and not have the bulky tanks in the room.

My original idea was to mount the pump in the loft in the back of my shop, come out of the loft with 1" black pipe go up to the ceiling two elbows and down to a tee with a drip leg then back up and down again then into the tank. Figured it would help cool and remove water from the air before the tank.

If copper is a better choice would you want soft or hard copper?
